Laser Skin Treatment

Laser skin treatment is the term used to describe a range of medical procedures that use lasers to help cure and alleviate certain types of skin problems. This kind of treatment basically involves using a laser (such as a carbon dioxide based laser) which removes the top layers of your skin so that your body can grow fresh ones. This kind of treatment is therefore often also referred to as a laser peel.

In most cases you will be given a simple local anaesthetic for this kind of procedure although some sedation will also be involved in some cases. Laser skin treatment can be used for a variety of cosmetic and medical purposes, including problems with:

In some cases a laser skin treatment can completely remove the skin issue and in others it can improve a condition but may not remove it in its entirety. So, for example, laser skin treatment on some burns may not completely remove every trace of a burn but may make it less obvious. The results you get here will depend on your underlying problem. This kind of treatment can be used on all areas of your body in most cases.

Although less invasive than many other kinds of skin treatments you may need some time to recover from this kind of surgery and you will be given specific instructions on what to do with the area(s) of skin after they have been treated to avoid problems such as infection and any swelling that may arise from your treatment.
